I’ve been looking forward to this week’s post! I’ve rounded up three videos and a drawing to share with you today.
Last night was the first dance-for-votes night of this season’s So You Think You Can Dance. I started watching the show last year, mostly because Mary Murphy (one of the judges) sends me into fits of giggles. However, it didn’t take long for me to pick favorite dancers, and when season 5 started a few weeks ago I had to revisit some of my favorite performances from last season. I’ve watched the two videos below many, many times. I like the music, I like the dancing, and I just can’t get enough!
I may as well tell you this now. I don’t think I can dance. I’m so uncomfortable with my dancing skills that I rarely dance in public. The one big exception would be weddings; I don’t know why, but at a friend’s reception I have no problem busting a move! I think my lack of ability is why I find great dancers so inspiring. I’m always amazed at the the control they have over their bodies and how quickly they can move from one crazy position to another. The people on the show have talents I can only dream of. So I’ll just sit back and watch (in awe with my mouth agape). Do you watch? Do you already have favorites?
My sister happens to be a wonderful dancer, and you can see a short slide show of her dance team here.
Pot-Bellied Yetty from Daniel’s Daily Monster
Jon Hicks recently started including drawings of monsters in his son’s lunchbox. Um, hello? That is awesome! He writes about it in the Hickensian (the HicksDesign blog). Too cute! I think I like this one so much because it reminds my of my mom’s style of drawing. Jon Hicks also has flickr, if you’re interested.
Do you do anything like this on a daily basis? I’ve heard of things like a painting-a-day or a photo-a-day, but never a daily monster!
I found this video when I was checking out Neil Gaiman’s blog. (Gaiman is the fabulous author of Stardust, Neverwhere, Coraline, and more.)
I have watched/listened to this video about 100 times in the past few days. This is 19 year old Tom Milsom covering The Magnetic Fields’ All My Little Words. He’s accompanied by a gameboy. And it is fantastic. I like it so much that I just bought his brilliantly titled album Awkward Ballads for the Easily Pleased. Check out Milsom’s YouTube channel for more.
In case you missed it, I now have cards available at Rugg Road Paper Company in Boston. Super cool, I know! I also listed a congratulations card and a birthday card in my Etsy shop. Lastly, I posted my very first tutorial on Tuesday. I’ll see if I can think of some more things to teach you, because that was fun.
Have any thoughts? Leave them in the comments! I’ll be back with more thoughts next week, but don’t be afraid to stop by before Thursday to check out what’s happening.
