How sweet is this puppy? Oh. My. God. I think I’m in love! If you know me, it’s no secret that I can’t wait to get my own dog. I spend a lot of time saying “oooooh, I like that dog!” or “let’s not get that one.” The French bulldog just moved up the list (the malamute is still at the top, though). Visit Jen Huang’s blog and site for more of her absolutely stunning photography. (Extra awesome: she photographed a wedding in North Adams, my hometown!)
The Office is my favorite show. And this shirt illustrates a classic Jim-mocking-Dwight moment (see it here). I want it.
Jim: Fact: Bears eat beets. Bears, beets, Battlestar Galactica. Dwight: Bears do not — What is going on? What are you doing?
Oh man, I laugh every time I see it. And I just watched that clip like 10 times in a row. I’m always more productive and inspired when I’m happy, are you?
If you haven’t seen this video yet, do make sure to watch it. It’s a wonderful look at the behind-the-scenes of the fabulous Sharon Montrose. Every once in awhile I browse her Etsy shop, just because it makes me smile. One of these days I’ll be purchasing a print (or 4). She captures these little critters in a magical way; she shows us their characters. (via The Storque)
Lost In Thoughts is a weekly series. I started this feature because I’m inspired by the amazing things I see on blogs and Etsy, and by family, friends, readers’ comments, and life. I don’t want to keep all of these wonderful finds to myself, so I gather them together on Thursdays to share with you.
Recently, a woman saw my paper crane mobiles in my Etsy shop, and thought I might be able to help her with an idea. After learning a little more about what she had in mind, I decided to take the project.
::The Project::
This piece was commissioned as a wedding gift. It consists of red paper cranes attached to a high quality sheet of white paper in the shape of a heart.
::The Details::
★ 71 red origami cranes arranged into a heart
★ 16″ x 20″ heavy sheet of high quality, acid free white art paper
★ black frame (16″ x 20″)
★ signed + dated
If you are interested in a custom project, please contact me.
I’m working on a custom project that involves a lot of red paper cranes. I thought it would be fun to share this little sneak peek, since I’ve been spending so much time folding!
I was contacted about making a heart out of paper cranes, and I thought it would be an interesting challenge. My client will be giving this piece as a wedding gift, so that’s pretty exciting! I’ll share more pictures when it’s complete.
In 2009 Melissa Morris decided to create 160 art journal pages by the end of the year. She didn’t quite make it, but this year she’s decided to pick up the project where she left off (page 43). Yipee! So far, I’m really enjoying her drawings and the commentary that accompanies each one. Watch her progress on her blog 160 Pages: A Journey Through Journaling. Melissa also authors the blog Operation Nice.
This is a clever bookmark. Very cute. I read a lot, but I just use free bookmarks that I get from the library or bookstore. They work just fine, but this one would ad a little more fun to the day.
Last week, Jennifer Hill tweeted about these amazing animal busts. I’m so glad she did, because this gazelle is just wonderful. I can’t get over it! This little guy is officially on my wishlist.
I. Love. This. Song. Emphasis completely necessary. I really like to make a fool of myself and dance to it (usually alone) by slowly swinging my arms in the air above my head in time to the music. Yeah, it’s a pretty dorky move, but it’s really fun. I urge you to give it a try while you take a listen. For the sake of your reputation, you may want to make sure nobody’s watching if you do decide to give my sweet dance move a test run.
Today’s question: What book(s) are you reading? What’s on your reading list? I started wondering when I realized that all of today’s images involve printed words.
I just finished reading Bel Canto. I read late into the night because I couldn’t put it down, and I’m still thinking about the story (almost 2 weeks later). It’s about a long-term hostage situation and unexpected bonds form between the captives and the terrorists.

This is a really beautiful shadow puppet set. It would be fun to make up whale tales and use these cutouts to tell stories to friends and family. The Orange Moon Toys Etsy shop is full of detailed puppet sets.
Honestly, I have no idea what this is, but I like it. I think it’s from 1937. The “A” in “PARIS” is fabulous. The the cartoon-y snakes are funny, especially compared to the more realistic lion roaring from inside the “O.” (via Agence eureka)
These are pretty neat-o, huh? You could really design a room around books covered with these cool designs by Book City Jackets. I like the idea of using a book cover with a descriptive word (like fiction). (via Sub-Studio Design Blog)
This sand animation is beautiful and emotional. The artist, Kseniya Simonova, is the winner of Ukraine’s Got Talent, and she’s telling the story of what happened to the country during WWII. The Guardian explains that
Ukraine lost one in four of its population during the Second World War, the largest losses of any country and about 20% of the total deaths.
Simonova’s sand story portrays the human loss after the German invasion in 1941.
Today’s question: When’s the last time you covered a book? I used to have to cover books in middle and high school, but I don’t think I ever covered one that I owned.

The sweet awning has always grabbed my attention, but every time I’d pass it would already be closed for the day. Finally, a few weeks ago, I was in the area and the door was open so I ducked in to check it out.
It felt like walking into the past. The store is miniature, and many of the items look like they’ve been on the shelves for decades. But in a good way. It’s an amazing little shop that’s full of nostaglia-inducing toys and cards from the past 50 years or so. They also have some new stuff. Can you believe there are things in there that cost $0.50? For real. Maybe even $0.25; it’s that kind of shop.
As I headed toward the door, an amazing card caught my eye. It’s bigger than most – 15.5 inches x 8.5 inches – and has a picture that reminds me of Fractured Fairytales.
I have no idea what year this card is from, but I’d guess the 50s or 60s. What do you think? And how cool is that envelope? It says
Mr. Postman:
Please be sure this valuable greeting card from —
{space for name & address}
arrives safely!
FRAGILE
Do not crush or bend
*Please hand stamp
Inside, the horse pops up, like a pop-up book. I really wanted this card, but I couldn’t tell if its vintage-ness & size would make it pricey. I brought it up to the register and the woman looked at it and said “that’ll be one dollar, please.” One dollar! Including tax! What a steal. It was pretty obvious that the card had been there since the decade it was created and that they had absolutely no way of tracking inventory, and it totally made my day. So now I have this cool, giant card for inspiration.
Do you have any vintage cards that make you smile?
Normally I wouldn’t consider hanging an animal head on my wall because I’d be creeped out, but this felt moose is another story! Cute, soft and friendly, I can see this little guy making a nice office companion. I’m particularly fond of the green heart.
I really like these boutonnieres. They’re delicate, but lasting, since they’re made of fabric flowers. They seem like a great, affordable option that can be kept as a souvenir after the fact!
Birds + orange = love (right?). You’ve noticed how much I like birds, haven’t you? I have a Little Miss Birdercollection, so I guess it’s a bit of an obsession. And these sweet cutouts in orange patterns? Oh goodness; I’d wear this weekly (daily?)!
I was introduced to Pomplamoose’s VideoSongs when I saw their Single Ladies cover (it’s great). I wanted more, so I watched some of their other videos and grabbed some free downloads from their MySpace page. According to their description,
A VideoSong is a new Medium with two rules:
1. What you see is what you hear (no lip-syncing for instruments or voice).
2. If you hear it, at some point you see it (no hidden sounds).
I’ve been enjoying them for the past few weeks, and I especially like this cover of Edith Piaf’s La Vie en Rose. I’ll be humming it all day long.
Today’s question: Did you make anything this week? Do you have a DIY project planned for the weekend?

You guys. I. Love. Halloween. It is the best! Loads of candy, costumes, and fun, fun, fun! And ORANGE! I’ve got more than usual for you today, because I’ve been rounding things up for about a month and I had absolutely no desire to weed anything out!
There’s no better way to start a Halloween post than with a punch of orange. These little pumpkins are totally adorable and the colors make me swoon. What would you do with one of these little guys?
I don’t think I could pull off this little number, but it is super cute. I think the collar really makes this outfit work (I’m channeling Tim Gunn here). Tell me, would you wear this?
What’s Halloween without a boatload of candy? (Answer: stupid.) Amy Atlas makes candy look like art. Looks too good to eat, doesn’t it? It’s all so perfectly arranged and yummy.
If I had an extra $610 laying around, I might just drop it on these Max-inspired pajamas. So slouchy and soft and Sendak-y. (I loved the movie, by the way.)
If I had a baby, this is what he/she would be wearing on the 31st. I’ve actually been holding on to this picture since LAST Halloween. That’s how much I love this costume! So fluffy and the feet, oh the feet! So cute!
Hocus Pocus was one of my favorite movies when I was little (let’s be honest, I still love it). What’s you favorite Halloween movie?
A note about costumes: My mom is amazing. She helped me (a lot) with my costume this year, and it reminded me of when I was little. I never once wore a store-bought costume. Every year she’d ask my siblings and me what we wanted to be for Halloween and then she’d make it happen. Some of my favorite costumes include: princess, dalmatian (I liked this one so much I wore it at least twice, maybe thrice), piggy bank, bumble bee, and Dorothy. Last year I made my own frog princess costume, and also outfitted my boyfriend as a gnome. We looked great! Next week I’ll share pictures of us in this year’s costumes. I’m hoping you’ll share too! What are you going to be? What was your best costume ever? What’s your favorite candy? Do you watch scary movies all October? Share in the comments!

These hangers are so simple and obvious, and I think that’s why I find them appealing. I wouldn’t mind adding a little nature to my closet; in fact, I think that would be just lovely. They are available for sale at livette la suissette. [via JUST COOL DESIGN]
Awww. This vintage deer softie is truly adorable. According to Spacejam’s description of the toy, this little guy’s from the 40s, so it’s really held up pretty well. [via craftgawker]
How fun is this? A strawberry Pop-Tart case for your iPhone. I don’t eat them often, but I do like a strawberry Pop-Tart every once in a while! Gadget Gear has a bunch of other unique cases available in their Etsy shop, too.
A few months ago I saw the movie Duets on TV. I’d never heard of it, and I’m not sure why. I was blown away by the music. Gwyneth Paltrow’s rendition of Bette Davis Eyes is excellent. Who knew she had such a pretty singing voice? Definitely worth a listen!
Are you all gearing up for Halloween? It’s my favorite holiday (except maybe my birthday), and for about month I’ve been looking for exciting finds for next week’s post! Have you noticed any Halloween trends or do you have any Halloween traditions? Do tell!
