Welcome back to the ELM blog for another installation of Lost in Thoughts! Today I’ve got some neat-o find for you; things that make me think, “oooh, that’s cool!”
When I was little, we had bins filled with colored pencils and crayons. If we stored them like this, we probably could have filled two full walls. (via Megan Charland)
Lost In Thoughts is a weekly series. I started this feature because I’m inspired by the amazing things I see on blogs and Etsy, and by family, friends, readers’ comments, and life. I don’t want to keep all of these wonderful finds to myself, so I gather them together on Thursdays to share with you.
I’m working on a custom project that involves a lot of red paper cranes. I thought it would be fun to share this little sneak peek, since I’ve been spending so much time folding!
I was contacted about making a heart out of paper cranes, and I thought it would be an interesting challenge. My client will be giving this piece as a wedding gift, so that’s pretty exciting! I’ll share more pictures when it’s complete.
Today I’m truly lost in my thoughts. Honestly. Why? Oh, maybe because I started this blog and website ONE YEAR AGO today! I can’t believe it. At the time, Everything Little Miss was just an idea, not even a hobby yet.
I’m so excited to celebrate with you that I’m sending you home with a little party favor (you’ll find it waiting for you at the end of this post). So let’s get to the birthday-themed inspiration!
It should be no surprise that I’ve got birthday cake on the brain; this is a birthday post, after all . But a pink one? Yes, please. And thank you. I might have to give this recipe a try.
What would a birthday be with a prettily wrapped gift or two? I’m a big fan of wrapping with old grocery bags and newspaper, but I’ve never used pages of a book before! Cool. The sewing adds a little something too, don’t ya think?
Birthdays are also for making wishes, so I’m wishing for all sorts of wonderful things in the coming year. I’ll share them with you as they happen (come true).
I’ve had fun using my imagination and working with clients this past year. I have a flickr set dedicated to Everything Little Miss, which you can see in the slideshow above.
Thank you for visiting my website and my shop and for going on this exciting adventure with me. I’m looking forward to all that’s still to come!
Question of the day: What’s your favorite thing about birthdays? I like the part about making awesome wishes.
Here’s my gift to you: I’m offering a 15% discount on all sales in my shop. Just mention “birthday discount” in the message to seller at checkout. You will be charged the full price at checkout, but I will refund 15%. You can also contact me to place an order. This offer is good until 11:59 PM on Thursday, February 11th, 2010.

Thank you so much for visiting today. This is the first Lost in Thoughts of 2010! I’m excited about the wonderful things I’ll discover this year, and I look forward to sharing them with you on Thursdays. Now let’s get to the good stuff.
I like to think of the new year starting off all sparkly and sweet, like this photo. I hope your midnight toast was bubbly, fun, and maybe a little bit romantic! Visit Garron Nicholls’ flickr to check out more photos.
This is a super fun idea. Many of us make resolutions and goals at the start of each new year, but maybe we should also be making wishes! Visit Ali Gibbons’s Etsy shop to get your own.
On the first my boyfriend and I enjoyed hot mugs of cocoa topped with whipped cream. These would have been perfect for us. I like the unique shape of them and the color pairing. Get them at clayswan.
The animation in this music video for Winter Song is quite sweet. The song is by Sara Bareilles and Ingrid Michaelson, and it’s another one that I occasionally listen to on repeat for days at a time. The harmonies are wonderful.
Today’s question(s):What are you looking forward to in 2010?Do you have any questions for me or about Everything Little Miss?
I hope 2010 is full of wonderful for you!

Join the flickr group or just blog your own photos and play along for the rest of the week. It’s fun! Here’s a slideshow of the pictures submitted to the flickr group so far:
This is very neat-o. Boats can use these flags as signals to communicate with each other. The flags represent individual letters of the alphabet, so they can be used to spell out words. According to Wikipedia, the symbols also have standard meanings, for example the “J” flag alone can mean “I am on fire!” Who knew? So very useful.
I’m a big fan of the jewelry at dogeared. Their make a wish line is adorable. The idea is that you get a necklace on a string. When you put it on, you make a wish. But the string isn’t meant to last forever, and when it breaks your wish comes true. Sweet, right? I’ll be honest, I’ve never gotten one of these because I think I’d be sad to lose the adorable charm. However, if I were to get one as a gift, I wouldn’t mind receiving this gorgeous, gold dipped sand dollar (*hint*wink*).
I think sailing knots are so cool. They’re so useful and elegant at the same time. I’m impressed with how well they hold, and also with how easily they can be untied if need be. I knew I wanted to include knots, so I searched around on flickr and found this gorgeous photo by Aaron. He’s got an interesting photostream, and there are some other nice sailing pictures.
How did you spend your 4th of July weekend? Did you spend any time at the beach? Did you finish a good book or a project? I’d love to hear all about it!
I’m introducing a new series today: Lost In Thoughts. Each Thursday, for 8 weeks, I will feature songs, colors, designs, and anything else that is making me feel creative or is getting the wheels of my brain turning. I generally use this blog to share what I’m working on and my new products, but this series will give you a better look at the girl behind Everything Little Miss!
I actually have a bag of wrapping paper. I saw this some time ago, and my own bag is a recent development. I just rediscovered this photo, so it was probably a subconcious descision on my part. I use my wrapping paper to line envelopes for Everything Little Miss. And for gifts, of course! Do you have a basket or bag of paper? How about ribbons or buttons? (Yes, I have those too.)
Emma is my sister, and she loves to take pictures. This one is my favorite and I think about it often. I love the angles and the vibrant red. She looks at things differently than I do, and it always good to see things from another perspective. Is there somebody in your life who looks at things differently? Is that frustrating or inspiring? Maybe both?
This animated short is so sweet that I come back to it again and again. I love the beautifully simple animation and endearing storyline. Excellent use of color and sound effects, as well. I’m so glad this is available on YouTube!
I look forward to your comments and ideas about Lost In Thoughts, so don’t be shy. Also, if you’re looking for more, there’s a great post on A Beautiful Ripple Effect about different sources of inspiration.
