lost in thoughts #65

Thursday, July 8th, 2010

On June 18 – 20, I had the privilege of attending my first muslim wedding, and it was an absolute delight. I wrote about the events and posted photos here. Everything was new to me, super colorful, and totally inspiring. Have you figured out this week’s theme yet?

Muslim Bride from Shelton Muller’s flickr

While cruising around flickr looking for photos of Muslim weddings, I stumbled upon this beauty. Wow, I just love it! The lighting, the way she’s holding her veil back with her beautifully hennaed hand, just everything. What a pretty bride. Check out Shelton Muller’s photostream here.

Indian Food from mycameraspeaks’ flickr

My friends are Pakistani, but the food is virtually the same as Indian food. It was just delicious, but also way spicier than I’m accustomed to. My mouth was on fire, but it was so worth it. Yum! Plus, it’s fund to eat such brightly colored food. See more from mycameraspeaks here.

Eric + me

I know you guys like to see photos of me on the blog, so here I am! My boyfriend and I are laughing because we’re doing a prom pose. Both of our outfits were made in Pakistan; I really, really love mine. It’s such a gorgeous green and it’s all silky soft. I felt a little like a princess wearing custom-made clothes! See more of my pictures from the wedding here.

The first night of the wedding, people (myself included) danced for the bride and groom. One of the dances was to a Bollywood song called Billo Rani. I have no idea what it’s about, but it is incredibly catchy. It really gets started at 00:46. Enjoy!

What is your favorite thing about weddings?

Lost In Thoughts is a weekly series. I started this feature because I’m inspired by the amazing things I see on blogs and Etsy, and by family, friends, readers’ comments, and life. I don’t want to keep all of these wonderful finds to myself, so I gather them together on Thursdays to share with you.

lost in thoughts #60

Thursday, June 3rd, 2010

This week my boyfriend left for a 10 week internship in Philadelphia, PA. Since his departure early Tuesday morning, I’ve been thinking about saying goodbye, office life, and Philly. This is what I’ve been looking at:

waving goodbye from train in 1935 from State Library of Queensland, Australia’s flickr

There are all sorts of goodbyes. Sometimes it’s a relief to part ways. It can be casual, no big deal. There are sad, tearful farewells and smiley see-you-laters. But for some reason, when I think of a picture to represent saying goodbye, people waving from a train comes to mind; it wasn’t too hard to find an old photograph on flickr.

still from Office Space

I haven’t worked in an office since 2008, and I haven’t really thought about cubicles since then. But now that my boyfriend will be back to a normal job for the summer (he’s in between his first and second years of business school), I’ve been wondering what it looks like. I’m picturing grey cubes. Hopefully nothing about it will be reminiscent of Office Space!

LOVE Park Philly photo by Allison Ostertag

I’ve seen many pictures of the LOVE sculpture, but until this week I had no idea it was located in Philly’s LOVE Park! This is a landmark I’d like to visit. Anything else I should see when I make a trip down there?

This is my favorite scene from The Philadelphia Story. Embedding is disabled on this video, but you should totally click through and check it out. And if you haven’t seen the movie – goodness – just see it! I’m a huge Katharine Hepburn fan! She’s just wonderful.

folded valentines

Wednesday, January 20th, 2010

It’s time to start thinking about Valentine’s Day! I think it’s my favorite holiday besides Halloween. I loved it looooong before I ever had a boyfriend. In elementary school I looked forward to making Valentines for my classmates and then dropping them into the specially decorated brown paper bags on each desk. Did you do that at your school? Plus, my mom always makes the best Valentines and a special meal of heart-shaped meatloaf and pink mashed potatoes.

Mostly, I just really enjoy honoring love — romantic or otherwise — with a special day. Soooo, it should be no surprise that I have some Valentines for sale.

Now available in my Etsy shop. They come as singles or as sets. Flat Valentines are also for sale as singles and sets.

All of the designs in the Little Miss Smitten collection are great for Valentine’s Day, so check the shop for availability.

I love the pinks and purples in this design. The colors are soft and inviting.

The set includes 8 blank cards and envelopes. The cards measure 3.5″ x 4.875″ (4 bar). The set comes tied with a ribbon.

With a set of 8, you can use a few for anniversaries, weddings, bridal showers, and even thank yous.
