lost in thoughts #63

Thursday, June 24th, 2010

Most days, I go for a walk around 5:00 PM. Sometimes I bring a camera with me so I can capture the little surprises I discover. I especially love when I find sweet suggestions that kids rule the neighborhood. Here are some of the things I’ve seen in the past few weeks:

minot rose garden basked in sunlight

I visit this public rose garden frequently. Being surrounded by exciting colors and heavenly scents is a lovely way to spend an afternoon. On the other side of the park there’s a playground, so there are always kids running around and laughing, too.

pink lily

There are a whole bunch of bright blossoms and flowering bushes in front of an apartment building on my regular route. This pink lily caught my attention. Such delicious hues, don’t you think?

10¢ for a cup of water

Before I saw the sign, I saw the water stand. There were two little girls – maybe 5 or 6 – and an older brother who looked to be about 8. As I walked by he stage-whispered “yell girls!” Then they started screaming, “WHO WANTS WATER? WHO WANTS WAAATER?” It really was pretty cute. Unfortunately, I had to pass up the amazing opportunity because I didn’t have any money with me. (I guess they didn’t have any lemons?)

red dog

A lost and lonely dog perched on a stone wall. I imagine it was just waiting for it’s owner. I like to think they were reunited since it was gone the next day.

Today’s question: How often do you take walks? Do you ever seen anything fun?

Lost In Thoughts is a weekly series. I started this feature because I’m inspired by the amazing things I see on blogs and Etsy, and by family, friends, readers’ comments, and life. I don’t want to keep all of these wonderful finds to myself, so I gather them together on Thursdays to share with you.

Welcome! As you know by now, every Thursday I share some of my inspirations. Let’s take a look at what I’ve gathered for you this week.

il_fullxfull.84524662Butterfly Quicksilver Colorful Mobile by Royal Buffet

I’m a huge fan of mobiles. Not only do I think this butterfly mobile would be darling hanging from my ceiling, I also love  the blurry, colorful background in the product photo. Oh, and the upcycled paper is fabulous. How cute is that? The mobile can be found in the Royal Buffet Etsy shop.

I find it fitting for this week, because I saw more butterflies this past weekend than I’ve seen all summer! It helped that I was sitting in the midst of a lovely gargen.

treehouse-pointTreehouse Point

Wow. Completely gorgeous treehouse, don’t you think? Can you believe that Treehouse Point is actually a venue for special events? That is totally cool, and very outdoorsy. In addition to the fairy tale setting, the venue caters using organic, regionally grown and produced products. This amazing looking place is located 22 miles outside of Seattle, WA. If you’ve been there, please tell me about it!

Who doesn’t love a great looking tutu?  The TuTu Sweet Factory makes one-of-a-kind tutus for little ones. They’re bright and I bet they’re fun to wear. I really like the  bight green ribbon paired with the different shades of pink on this one. Check out the shop and blog.

This is a great live version of “Woe Is Me” by The Stellas. I heard about them a while back, and this was the first song I listened to. The Stellas have a great sound, even singing in a car.

But I’ll be okay
The sun’s gonna shine someday
Wiggle my waggles away
And God himself would say
You’ll be okay
You’ll be okay
I’ll be okay

Please feel free share your inspirations in the comments – you never know, you might see them featured one day!

Note: I’ll be sharing some new designs very soon. I’m just waiting for the cards to be delivered.

What a week it’s been! I left for San Francisco early last Thursday morning and I returned on the red eye Tuesday night, which landed in Boston around 8:20 yesterday morning. I did a ton of walking and I took 810 photos. Yes, that really says 810. Today’s post will be about the things that I found most inspiring. Enjoy!

2009-07-16 San Francisco 049_ELM

While walking around San Francisco, I couldn’t help but notice all of the beautiful metal work on railings, outer doors, and even street lights. I adored being surrounded by so many graceful swoops and swirls, and this is just one of the many pictures I took of doorways, and you will defintiely be seeing a design or two as a result!

vegetables-san-francisco

I went to the big farmers’ market at the Ferry Building on Saturday morning. There was a lot of hustle and bustle because it’s such a popular market. I didn’t buy any vegetables, but I couldn’t resist taking pictures because they looked great all stacked together. I ended up getting a fresh, juicy peach. Yum! I wish I had one right now. Inside the ferry building I got some delicious Italian bread and some fancy cheeses. As you can imagine, I had a delectable lunch. I love food so much that I already have two food-inspired designs (apples and garbanzo beans), and I’m hoping to do a few more.

flowers-san-francisco

On Sunday I went to the Strybing Arboretum & Botanical Gardens in Golden Gate Park. It was stunning. I took about 200 photos of flowers, and I could have spent days there. It was a sunny day and the gardens were quiet and peaceful. There weren’t many people there, so I didn’t have to fight any crowds while I enjoyed the the scenery. If you’re going to be in the area, you should definitely stop by the gardens.

I’ll leave you with this Otis Redding song about San Francisco. Have a beautiful Thursday and a wonderful week. Feel free to share stories about California or your week in the comments!

Note: I’ll also be writing about my adventures in a little more detail in my personal blog, if you’d like to know more about my trip.
