custom design: tea party bridal shower invites

Monday, May 3rd, 2010

I made these bridal shower invitations for my friend, Areej. The design has a tea party theme, and reflects her love of the color pink! Fun!

The shower was yesterday afternoon, and it was really sweet.

There were yummy things to eat, like: tea sandwiches, fruit salad, watermelon lemonade, peach iced tea, and of course a fancy cake!

We all dressed up for tea, and the bride-to-be looked amazing. Tea parties are the best, best, best!

custom wedding invitation: julie + tim

Monday, February 8th, 2010

A few months ago Julie contacted me about a custom wedding invitation. She provided all of the inspiration by telling me about her plans and showing me pictures of the bridesmaid dresses and the birch bark wedding cake that she and Tim had selected.

The invitation was accented with a birch tree and snowflakes, and a fern adorned the RSVP. The two pieces complimented each other and the wedding theme nicely.

I finished the invitations by gluing them to a green backing paper that matched the envelopes. I sent them to the couple tied with white satin ribbons.

Congratulations Julie and Tim! (They were married this past Friday.)

lost in thoughts #31

Thursday, November 12th, 2009

It’s Thursday again, so that means it’s inspiration time! I’ve got some wonderful handmade finds for you this week.

Normally I wouldn’t consider hanging an animal head on my wall because I’d be creeped out, but this felt moose is another story! Cute, soft and friendly, I can see this little guy making a nice office companion. I’m particularly fond of the green heart.

I really like these boutonnieres. They’re delicate, but lasting, since they’re made of fabric flowers. They seem like a great, affordable option that can be kept as a souvenir after the fact!

Birds + orange = love (right?). You’ve noticed how much I like birds, haven’t you? I have a Little Miss Birder collection, so I guess it’s a bit of an obsession. And these sweet cutouts in orange patterns? Oh goodness; I’d wear this weekly (daily?)!

I was introduced to Pomplamoose’s VideoSongs when I saw their Single Ladies cover (it’s great). I wanted more, so I watched some of their other videos and grabbed some free downloads from their MySpace page. According to their description,

A VideoSong is a new Medium with two rules:

1. What you see is what you hear (no lip-syncing for instruments or voice).
2. If you hear it, at some point you see it (no hidden sounds).

I’ve been enjoying them for the past few weeks, and I especially like this cover of Edith Piaf’s La Vie en Rose. I’ll be humming it all day long.

Today’s question: Did you make anything this week? Do you have a DIY project planned for the weekend?

-April

Lost In Thoughts is a weekly series. I started this feature because I’m inspired by the amazing things I see on blogs and Etsy, and by family, friends, readers’ comments, and life. I don’t want to keep all of these wonderful finds to myself, so I gather them together on Thursdays to share with you.

lost in thoughts #4

Thursday, May 7th, 2009

This week I’m going to focus entirely on newly discovered blogs that I find inspiring. Each of the featured blogs is written by a fellow classmate from Holly Becker’s (Decor8) wonderful Blogging Your Way e-course. The class was 4 weeks long, and filled with many talented bloggers. I hope you enjoy their writing and work as much as I  do.

Jennifer Squires Productions jennifer-squiresJennifer’s blog features her stunning photography. It’s dream-like, and takes me to another world. The colors are pale yet vibrant, and the effect is magical. I really enjoy her post about her Valentine’s Day collection. Jennifer’s work can be purchased in her Etsy shop, which you should definitely check out.

The Inspired Bride
the-inspired-brideThis blog is written by Maddy, a 25 year old who’s getting married at the end of the month. She writes about everything wedding related, little and big. You can tell Maddy puts a lot of thought into her posts and her image selection. She also categorizes her topics very well, so it’s easy to find something specific. My favorite category is obviously Invitations & Stationary

dress design decor
dressdesigndecorDaniella’s got great taste.  She shares pictures of things she likes at the moment. Spring & summer trends, beautiful homes, pretty patterns – it’s all there and it’s all gorgeous. I think it’s a blog full of eye candy, and her commentary makes it even more delicious. She’s very upbeat and enthusiastic, which I certainly enjoy. I’m longing for the belt in this post (I’ll let you guess why).

Lewidoo fancies
lewidoo-fanciesParusha, the author of Lewidoo fancies, lives in (or near) London. First of all, I like to read her blog with an English accent. Second of all, she writes about adorable things. For example, one time she received china (tea cups) as a gift, so she took it to China Town for a photo shoot! How fun is that?

Visual Notes
visual-notesI’m such a visual person, and the name of this blog is what first grabbed my attention. Written by Maaret, this blog is full of inspiring and colorful images. It’s filled with things Maaret finds and thinks are exciting. I love the paper cranes post, because I’m a big fan.*

I encourage you to visit each of these blogs and see what they have to offer. Maybe you’ll end up adding them to your list of favorites, maybe you’ll find something you can’t live without, or maybe you’ll be inspired to create something. What blogs do you visit when you’re looking for something motivational, gorgeous, or fun?

I’d also like to thank Elle of Mama Loves for mentioning me in a post yesterday! It’s yet another great blog by a classmate – I’m telling you, it was an impressive group of people!

*You’ll find out more about my love of paper cranes tomorrow!
